Deep Dive Digital Transformation: Booking & Ecommerce for Abyss Scuba
Abyss Scuba in Littlehampton had evolved rapidly from a passionate local dive club into a premier 5-star PADI centre with its own dedicated training pool. However, their DIY Wix website was struggling to keep up with this physical expansion. It offered limited SEO visibility and forced staff to manage complex course bookings manually. As a Community Interest Company (CIC) now offering specialist Independent Alternative Provision (IAP), they needed a professional digital platform that could handle diverse customers—from recreational divers to SEND education providers—without administrative friction.
Streamlining Bookings with Acuity
The previous system treated scuba courses like simple retail products, leading to confusion and scheduling headaches. We migrated Abyss to Squarespace and integrated a robust Acuity Scheduling system. Now, clients can view real-time availability for pool sessions and open water dives, book their slots, and pay securely in one seamless workflow. This automation has significantly reduced admin time, allowing the instructors to focus on what they do best: teaching in the water.
Expanding Revenue with Ecommerce
To support the centre's retail arm, we built a fully featured dive shop within the new site. The custom ecommerce build categorises hundreds of technical products—from regulators to wetsuits—making them easy to search and filter. This has opened a new 24/7 revenue stream, allowing local divers in Sussex and Hampshire to browse stock online before visiting the marina, or order directly for delivery.
Designing for Inclusivity
Reflecting the founders' backgrounds in the Royal Navy and SEND education, the design needed to be welcoming and accessible. We moved away from generic "sports" aesthetics to a clean, navigable layout that highlights their inclusive ethos. Dedicated sections for their IAP services clearly communicate their unique value to local councils and schools, helping them secure vital contracts for supporting young people with additional needs.
